About BNP Paribas

BNP Paribas is a French banking group headquartered in Paris, formed in 2000 through the merger of Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas, and classified by global regulators as a systemically important bank. It operates in more than 60 countries with a diversified model spanning retail and commercial banking, corporate and institutional banking, asset management, insurance, and specialized services. Its retail networks include BNP Paribas in France, BNP Paribas Fortis in Belgium, BNL in Italy, and BGL BNP Paribas in Luxembourg, with additional operations in other European markets and a presence in the Americas and Asia-Pacific. Principal divisions are Corporate & Institutional Banking (markets, financing, advisory, transaction services), Commercial, Personal Banking & Services (domestic retail, consumer finance under BNP Paribas Personal Finance/Cetelem, fleet and equipment leasing via Arval and BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions), and Investment & Protection Services (BNP Paribas Asset Management and BNP Paribas Cardif). The group provides current and savings accounts, payments and cards, mortgages, consumer credit, cash management, trade finance, custody and fund administration via BNP Paribas Securities Services, and capital markets activities. It is supervised by the European Central Bank under the Single Supervisory Mechanism, listed on Euronext Paris and included in the CAC 40 index, and publishes Pillar 3 disclosures on risk, capital and liquidity; depositor protection is provided by national schemes in each market (for example, FGDR in France up to €100,000 per depositor per institution). In 2023 it completed the sale of Bank of the West to BMO and retains corporate and institutional operations in the United States. Products, fees, interest rates, eligibility and service levels vary by country and client segment and are subject to local regulation and oversight; the bank carries investment‑grade credit ratings from major agencies and has been subject to regulatory actions in the past, including a 2014 settlement with U.S. authorities over sanctions violations.
