About Swedbank
Swedbank AB is a Sweden-based universal bank with core operations in Sweden and the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), offering retail and corporate banking, mortgages, cards and payments, savings and investments via Swedbank Robur, and insurance services through group units. It operates a nationwide presence in its home markets with branches and ATMs alongside widely used digital and mobile channels, and participates in national payment and identity systems such as Swish and BankID in Sweden. The bank is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm (ticker SWED A) and is supervised by Finansinspektionen in Sweden, with its Baltic subsidiaries overseen by local regulators. Funding is anchored in customer deposits, complemented by covered bonds backed by mortgage assets and other wholesale instruments; revenue is mainly net interest income with fees and commissions from payments, asset management, and lending-related services. Risk is concentrated in Nordic and Baltic household and real estate exposures, with additional sensitivities to commercial property, macroeconomic conditions, and regulatory requirements on capital, liquidity, and anti–money laundering. In 2019–2020, authorities in Sweden and the Baltics identified serious shortcomings in historical AML controls linked to Baltic operations; Swedish regulators imposed an administrative fine in 2020 and the group undertook governance and control remediation, leadership changes, and system upgrades. Customer services include current and savings accounts, domestic and cross-border payments, consumer credit, mortgages with rate discounts negotiated from list rates, corporate lending, cash management, trade finance, and merchant acquiring through PayEx/Swedbank Pay. Pricing for accounts, cards, transfers, and brokerage is set by product and market and varies by customer segment. Deposits are covered by statutory guarantee schemes in each jurisdiction, generally aligned with EU standards. The bank publishes quarterly IFRS financials, capital and liquidity metrics relative to regulatory minima, and sustainability and risk disclosures relevant to credit, market, operational, and compliance risk.
